A GREAT HISTORIAN PASSES

At eighty-four Professor Ephraim Emerton died. His connections with the University were supposedly severed in 1918 after thirty-six years of continual service, but those who have known History 1, know better. Until History becomes a forgotten art the connections of Professor Emerton will not be severed with any educational institution.

His close connection with the foundation of historical societies in America added much to the reputation of Harvard as an institution of intellectual achievement. His work in the field of accurate research did much to bring the art of history writing to its present scientific peak. In Professor Emerton, Harvard, no more than the world of culture, loses a beloved and imposing figure.
