The James Gordon Bennett Prize of $100 for the best essay on a subject of American government domestic or foreign policy of contemporaneous interest was awarded last year to Charles R. Cherington, '35, of New York city, for an essay on "The United States Shipping Board: a Study in Collectivism."
The Philo Sherman Bennett Prize of $50 for the best essay discussing the principles of free government was assigned to Russell G. Olsen, '35, of Chicago, III., for an essay on "Popular Sovereignty and the Political Theories of Robert Parsons."
The Toppan Prize of $200 for the best essay or dissertation upon a subject in political science was awarded to Robert K. Carr, A.M. '30, Ph.D. '35, of Norman, Okla., for a dissertation on "State Control of Local Finance in Oklahoma."
