Bliss Perry Appeals to Student Body For Donations to Robinson Memorial

Stone Tablet in Honor of Poet Will Be Put Against South Wall of Gardiner Library

Last June a notice was published calling attention to the projected Memorial in honor of the late Edwin Arlington Robinson, and asking for subscriptions.

The response was warm and immediate, showing the general desire to do honor to the poet's memory. Subscriptions, in most cases entirely unsolicited, were received from all parts of the country, often accompanied by notes expressive of the writers' affection for "E. A. R.", and admiration for his work.

As the colleges were about to close for the summer, the subscriptions have been mostly from non-collegiate sources; it is therefore hoped that, gratifying as the response hitherto has been, it will, now that the colleges have opened again, soon be augmented in a substantial degree.

Meantime, the Memorial has taken definite shape, that of a stone tablet, to be placed against the outer south wall the Gardiner Public Library.

A design has been perpared by Mr. Henry R. Shepley, of the from of Coolidge, Shepley, Bulfinch and Abbott, architects, of Boston, with an inscription composed by members of the Committee. It is simple and dignified, as the subject requires.

The chairman of the Robinson Memorial Committee is Mrs. Laurs E. Richards, of Gardiner, Maine; and the tressurer is Herbert M. Lawion, of the National Bank of Gardiner.

In view of the fact that Robinson was once a student at Harvard and had many friends and admirers among Harvard men, it is hoped that subscriptions to the modest fund necessary to complete the Memorial will be offered promptly. Mr. Walter B. Briggs of the Widener Library has kindly consented to receive subscriptions and to exhibit Mr. Shepley's beautiful design for the commemorative tablet.

(Among the supporters of the movement to secure subscriptions for the Memorial are Professors Lawrence J. Henderson '93, Robert S. Hillyer '17, and James B. Munn '12.--Ed. Note.)
