FRESHMAN ELEVEN HELD TO 0-0 TIE BY ANDOVER

'39 Soccer Team Outscores Dartmouth Aggregation by Single Goal--Lewis Sinks Winning Tally

A victory and a tie were the lot of the Freshman football and soccer forces on Saturday. The football team was held to a scoreless tie while the soccer team nosed out Dartmouth 2-1.

Although the football team outplayed Andover for the greater part of the game, their attack failed to function within the Andover 20-yard line, and the Schoolboys took the ball on downs.

Two changes were made in the starting lineup of the '39 team as Benjamin A. Smith came up to take the right end position and Laurence S. Johnson filled in the vacancy left by Clarence E. Boston, Jr.

The Andover team was stronger than last week and provided much sterner opposition than the Yardlings expected.

The soccer game was won by the third period shot of Lewis who played in the center half position. The other Harvard goal was scored by John MacL. Johnson who booted in a wicked shot from the right hand corner.

After Johansen's goal the Green came came back strongly and tested goalie Williams with several stiff shots. The half ended, however, with the Crimson leading by a point. In the second half there was a slow start but the Dartmouth booters finally got the ball down to the mouth of the Harvard goal on a penalty shot where it was kicked around for a few seconds before Ward of Dartmouth got ahold of it and sunk it with a neat placement.

The red-jerseyed players speeded up their offensive after the score was tied and threatened continually before the winning goal was netted by Lewis.

Johansen was the star of the drab affair, making several powerful shots before he finally sunk his-first goal. The Cambridge shot makers were unable to get their team play working smoothly except in a few instances and showed the lack of proper timing.
