CAPTAIN CARTER WINS SKI TEAM'S TRIAL RACE

New Tuckerman Ravine Trail Down Mt. Washington Is Used for First Time By club Members

H. Adams Carter, Captain of the skiing team, was the winner in the trial race of aspirants held yesterday over the new Tuckerman Ravine Trail on Mt. Washington. The trail, designed by Coach Charles N. Proctor, is two and one-half miles long, 40 feet wide, and at one place has a 25-degree drop.

Carter finished the 1 3/4 mile race in one minute, 40 seconds. Second place was taken collectively by R. Colin MacLaurin '38, Robert H. Shaw '37, and Charles S. Rogers '37, in one minute, 4b seconds. Frank M. Appleton finished next in one minute, 47 seconds, followed at intervals of one second by Dunbar Carpenter '37, and William F. Loomis '36.

Selections for the team will he made some time in February as a result of this trial race. Captain Carter will not be eligible, since he leaves on Sunday, February 3, to accompany Bradford Wash burn's Alaskan expedition.
