Major sports capture only third, fourth, and fifth places in the preferences of this year's Freshman Class for their spring sports. Tennis, as has been the case in the last few years, stands out ahead with 214 candidates. This is a majority of 54 over the next sport swimming which has attracted 160 men.
Singles is recreation which has been steadily growing in popularity, this spring making third place with 159. In the field of major sports crew outdistances the other with 127 oarsmen. There are an even 100 aspirants signed up for track but baseball again lags behind with only 59 men.
The popularity for the remaining sports is apparently about evenly divided among the other 139 Freshmen, making only about a ninth of the total 958. The number of men signed up for these activities is as follows: lacrosse, 21; basketball, 19; golf, 18; gymnasium, 15; squash, 13; fencing, 12; handball, 12; soccer, 8; rugby, 3; and miscellaneous, 18.
