BRITAIN MAY SETTLE DEET

London, May 22--Chance American taxpayers may yet be relieved of some of the burden of billions in defaulted war debts was intimated by an official in the British government today.

The spokesman hinted Great Britain would "not be at all reluctant to make a sacrifice" to settle the irritating war debt issue "once and for all." He added Britain, however, will make no attempt toward a definite settlement before the June 15 payment is due.

It still was assumed more project much as reduction of the British war debt from about $4,000,000,000 to around $2,500,000,000, will be examined before the June payment method is determined. Such a cut in the debt might be arranged by exacting repayment only of the capital borrowed, plus a very small interest rate on lines of the United States Italy funding agreement.
