So the Story Goes . . .

We've just heard another story about our football hero, Mike Adlis. It seems that the youthful protege of Coach Adam Walsh was approached at the end of spring football practice by Field Event Coach Jaako Mikkola about joining the ranks of weight tossers. "You are pretty well set up, Mike. How about coming out for track?" queried the interested Jaako.

"But I've never played track," was Mike's comeback and no amount of flattery by the wily Jaako could prevail.

It was just: "I've never played track, Jaako."

While on the subject of Coach Mikkola, the boys have been complaining of late about the stench of his cigarettes. Nobody seems to know just what kind they are, but Jaako can't get beyond the door of the Varsity Club before his presence is known all over the building.

Freshman Dean Henry Chauncey just winks an eye at a training break by one of his aspiring candidates. The rookie was caught by the former Varsity catcher red-handed in the Union Common Room, puffing contentedly on a cigarette. It was not: "Fierce he broke forth," but "Give me a light before I tell you to put it out."

There were plenty of disgruntled faces when the rain came along yesterday and refused to allow the football squad to top off its spring practice with a game. Everything seems to be over on the gridiron for the spring, since most of the players have handed in their uniforms.

The Eliot House crew will stick to legitimate members after this. The other day they found themselves three men short just as they were about to journey forth on a trial spin. Three outsiders, who knew little or nothing about pulling an oar, were picked up and the eight started down the river toward the Ford Plant.

When they reached the second bridge it was decided that they'd gone far enough, and the command was given to make for the Weld Boathouse. But the three untutored souls upset all the plans by refusing to turn around. Twice the order was given, and twice the shell refused to turn.

In disgust, the senior members yelled on masse to the three in the bow to put up their oars and let those in the know run the boat. Only in this way was disaster prevented and the boat-house reached.

The Harvard Junior Varsity nine will play the Brown Freshmen at Providence this afternoon. Coach Dolph Samborski has not yet decided whether to use Frank Wood or George Tittmann on the mound.

Johnny Lockwood, Jayvee slugger will be in his regular position at shortstop and is expected to help out Gallagher with the heavy-hitting assignment.

The probable Harvard batting order will be: Gallagher, cf; LaRoy, lf; Lockwood, ss; Connelly, 3b; O'Brien, 1b; Lee, rf; Carr, 2b; Thom. c; Tiffmann or Wood, p.
