Medalie To Speak for P.B.H. On "Observations on Courts"

Former Federal Attorney Is To Lecture Tonight in Langdell Hall

George Z. Medalie, former Federal Attorney for the Southern District of New York, will speak at an open meeting in Langdell Hall this evening, under the auspices of the Phillips Brooks Law School Committee. Mr. Medalie's subject will be "Observations on Courts and Lawyers"; he will be introduced by Edmund M. Morgan '02, professor of Evidence and Common Law Procedure at the Harvard Law School.

Mr. Medalie, while Federal Attorney for the New York City district, was in charge of the prosecution of Charles Mitchell of the National City Bank of New York for alleged evasion of the Federal Income Tax laws. Mitchell was acquitted, on the grounds that he was entitled to register the loss of depreciated securities to his wife, even though it was followed by immediate repurchase, inasmuch as the state failed to show that the sale was not in good faith.
