William Hunter Workman Fellowship Among Awards Given to 26 Students And Two Faculty Members

Twenty-six students and two faculty members of the Medical School have been awarded scholarships and fellowships totaling $7,870, the Harvard Corporation announced today. The faculty members are Dr. Lester S. King, assistant in Anatomy, who is awarded a William Hunter Workman Fellowship for 1934-35; and Dr. John D. Stewart, assistant in Surgery, awarded an Edward Hickling Bradford Fellowship for one year from March 1, 1934.

Sixteen first year medical students received scholarships. George Haven Scholarships were presented to Robert L. Bender of Goshen, Indiana; Herbert A. Hughes of Gamas, Washington; John B. McKittrick of Chestnut Hill; Clarence Nelson of San Francisco, California; John C. Nunemaker of Twin Falls, Idaho; Frank Payne, Jr. of Danville, Illinois; Paul G. Purington of Mystic, Connecticut; Lewis G. Shepler of Spokane, Washington; Matthew W. Stevens of Independence, Missouri; and Joseph W. Nadal of Springfield, Missouri.

A Davis Williams Cheever Scholarship is awarded to Robert E. Brownlee of Geneva, New York; while David M. Greeley is the recipient of a Charlotte Greene Scholarship. John Thomson Taylor Scholarships have been presented to George T. Howard, Jr. of Lexington, Kentucky; and Donald DeW. Parker of Pasadena, California. Henry H. Work, Jr. of Buffalo, New York is to receive the C. Eugene Gunther Scholarship.

Ten students have been granted fellowships for 1934-35. James Jackson Cabot Fellowships have been given to John C. Snyder 3M of Pasadena, California; and Henry S. Bennett 2M of Tottori, Japan. John R. Mote 3M of Tucson, Arizona has been named to receive the George Cheyne Shattuck Memorial Fellowship; and Dale G. Friend 3M of Missouri Valley, Iowa is the recipient of the Charles Eliot Ware Memorial Fellowship. The John Ware Memorial Fellowship has been granted to Philip F. Partington 3M of East Orange, New Jersey.

De Lamar Student Research Fellowships have been awarded S. Peter Sarris 2M of Lowell; Sam M. Talmadge 3M of Athens, Georgia; John W. Norcross 3M of Boston; Richard L. Riley 1M of Plainfield, New Jersey; Israel Kapnick Gr.M. of Providence, R. I.
