One of the most interesting exhibits ever shown at the Fogg Museum will be opened to the public today. A group of sculptured portraits of British Champion Animals, made by Herbert C. Haseltine '99, will be on exhibit until March 17. These pieces were loaned to the Fogg Museum from the Field Museum in Chicago.
Mr. Haseltine, already well-known to European art-lovers, is giving his first exhibition in Cambridge. The show consists of a group of portraits of prize-winning animals, sculptured in marble and bronze.
The materials used in the sculpture add to their interest and to the effect that they produce. One stallion is created out of cire perdue bronze, plated with gold and ornamented with lapis lazuli, ivory, and onyx. The Black Knight of Auchterarder, a champion bull, is hewn out of a piece of black Belgian marble, and is a figure of great simplicity and monumentality.
