THE CRIME

Only one waitress did not scream. Her name was Minerva, and she was a nice waitress. It was a mouse in the Eliot House Dining Room, yes, a real wild mouse. No one knew what to do. One suggested that the Head Tutor be called. Another thought the animal ought to be done away with. He was cruel. In the meantime one of those men waiters who wear white coats and carry the really heavy dishes tried to grab the little mouse. But the mouse was under a table where a man from O entry was sitting. The man waiter thought he had the mouse in his hand but he really had Minerva's foot. Then she did scream. But the man from O entry surprised everyone because he knew what to do. He asked the waitress for a double order of cheese. When the mouse saw the cheese, he ran up the man from O entry's legs and sat on the table, where he ate some of the cheese. There was also some beer spilled on the table, which the mouse drank, and, naturally, he became very tight. When the waitress, Minerva, the nice one, came to the table, the mouse would run to that side of the table, too. He was a funny mouse. Finally the man from O entry took him to his room, where he lives now. The name of the mouse is Minerva, after the nice waitress.
