New York, Oct. 8--Cautious traders too to the sidelines again tonight as conflicting rumors depressed the market.
Most observers continued optimistic, but all counseled care in operating under present conditions.
A few of the rumors which affected Wall Street today:
A prominent trader of the "good old days" is giving his one-time favorite trading stock another play.
Favorable dividend action may be expected soon on important stocks.

The administration would like to see better stock prices.
Some big operators got into the market last week, found it unsatisfactory, and got out again.
