Marianna, Fla., Oct. 26--A mob which seized a negro accused of assaulting and murdering a white woman from an Alabama jail today played hide and seek with Florida officers tonight.
Persistent reports said the mob planned to tie the negro to a stake near here tonight and let the father of the girl he killed do to him "whatever he desires."
It was believed that the mob was determined to lynch the negro tonight and there was nothing law enforcement officers could do about it.
The sheriff said the negro had confessed that he choked and beat the girl into semi-consciousness, attacked her and returned later to beat her to death with a heavy club.
