Individuality will be the main factor in inter-House debating, according to Edward M. Rowe '27, Director of Debating, who spoke at a meeting of the Debating Council yesterday, held to formulate plans for the coming inter-House season.
Mr. Rowe and Asa E. Phillips '34, president of the council, plan to give each House free rein in arranging and carrying out the inter-House debates. Each House will be given a chance to do what it wants, and for the first few months there will no inter-House debates, but informal discussions at which it is hoped some men of national prominence will speak, are to be held. It was also announced that a silver cup will probably be given to the House which wins the debating championship.
A meeting will be held on January 30 at which each House is expected to submit a list of its members interested in inter-House debating. Final plans for the informal debates within the Houses will be made at this meeting, and it is also hoped that arrangements can be made to start the actual inter-House debating as soon as possible.
