In commemoration of its seventy-fifth anniversary, the Glee Club is now exhibiting in the Treasure Room of Widener Library programs, pictures, and mementos illustrating its history and growth during the past three-quarters of a century.
On display is the baton used in directing the club in 1859, one year after the club was founded, and a series of programs dating from 1860. A glass beer mug is shown that was used in the days of the Freshman Glee Club and prewar beer. Other fond memories must be recalled by the carefully pressed rose under which is written "Presented to the secretary of the Harvard Glee Club by the young ladies of Bradford academy."
Prominent in the collection are pictures, programs, and placards from the European trip through France, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy in the summer of 1921. A letter from the French foreign minister to President Lowell commending the Club for its fine performances in France is shown, along with several photographs.
