THE CRIME

Ever since it was forced to accept the chandeliers, which a sister House had refused, Eliot House has harbored a certain sense of inferiority. Witness the incident of a notice posted day before yesterday, announcing a lecture by Professor "Karl" Schumpeter. Around the name "Karl", some eagle-eyed resident drew a little circle, with the cryptic comment: "Huh?" The French Language of Dunster House menus is a great trial to students and waitresses alike. It is a common thing to ask the waitress, for example, for the puree, the veal, salad, and milk, and receive her reply, in all Innocence, "And do you want the soup?"

A small card in a mailbox in Converse Chemical Laboratory reads, "Please send Professor Conant's mail to University Hall." This somehow reminds us to pass on the earnest plea of the Freshmen denizens of Stoughton to the man who stole the name-cards from every door to help him make up a mailing list. The Freshmen want their cards back.

Among the honored guests of the University on Saturday was His Honor Ex-Mayor Curley of Boston. Behind this famous gentleman sat Richard M. Russell '14, Mayor of Cambridge. At one point in the game a Harvard player missed a long forward pass, with terrible fumbling. The Mayor of Cambridge leaned forward to the emeritus mayor of Boston and said, slyly, "Even Jim Foley didn't do as badly as that."
