AS may be observed from the above, this is a novel about England written by a Scot. What is more to the point, it is written by a Scot whose prize stock is a dour sense of satirical nuance. Mr. Macdonnell disguises himself as Donald Cameron, relic of the World War, unemployed Highlander, prospective author of a "book about England." If the skeleton is cumbrous, if humor finds oblivion in an hospitable close, there is enough flaunting of kills to satisfy the average reader. For some mysterious reason, Mr. Christopher Morley was asked to write an introduction.
