NAMES OF FORTY EIGHT DETUR PRIZE WINNERS FOR 1931-32 ANNOUNCED

SOPHOMORES HEAD ALL CLASSES WITH 13 PRIZES

Forty-two students in Harvard College, and six members of the Engineering School have won Detur prizes for the year 1931-1932. Twelve of those receiving the award in the College were graduated last June. Six were awarded to seniors, 11 to Juniors, and 13 to Sophomores. Fifty-four prizes were given last year.

The Detur prize books are given on the foundation of Edward Hopkins, who was born in 1600, and came to New England in 1637. His will expresses his desire to "give some encouragement in those foreign plantations, for the breeding up of hopeful youths, both at the grammar school and college, for the public service of the country in future times." The prizes are awarded to every student in the College who wins a scholarship in the first group for the first time; likewise one is given to every graduate who was awarded an A.B. or an S.B. summan cum laude in the preceding year. They are also awarded to undergraduates in the Engineering School who win a scholarship in group one for the first time. The list of prize winners follows.
