The Press

Yes, Papa

The young man who was responsible for a Brown University magazine having a story that Holy Cross football players bit Brown men has resigned as editor-in-chief.

In his letter of resignation, written voluntarily, this young man wrote:

"The article was a mistake I shall regret as long as I live."

Come, now son, forget it! You are a man, and you have proved it. It takes a man to admit he is wrong. Good lands, son, all of us are wrong now and then; all of us make fools of ourselves and want to go put our heads in buckets.

You thought what you wrote was so. You were indignant that the boys of your old alma mater should be treated so. You just didn't know that Holy Cross men do not bite football players. You didn't know that one of the sweetest football relationships in history is that of Harvard and Holy Cross. You didn't know that Holy Cross men would scorn poor sportsmanship. They are a great group. We know them. Harvard, a great group, knows them. It was just that you, an individual, did not know them.

We are giving quite a bit of space to you, young feller, because we consider you and your generation extremely important. We don't want you to lose your spirit. And we want you to know that we think you are great for apologizing like the man that you are. And, after all, we guess we'll tell your name--Don De Nyse. --Boston Traveller.
