Announcement was made yesterday by Professor C. B. Gulick '91, of the department of Classics, and chairman of the Charles Eliot Norton Fellowship Committee, that all applications for admission to candidacy for this competition must be made to the Chairman of the Department of Classics on or before Thursday, December 1, 1932.

The Fellowship was established in 1901 by J. Loeb '88, as an expression of his regard and respect for the late Professor Norton '46, and in recognition of the latter's eminent services to Classical Archaeology, literature and art. Competition for the Fellowship is open to all undergraduates of Harvard University and Radcliffe College. The incumbent of the Fellowship, which carries a yearly income of $1400, must agree to pursue his studies for the year of his incumbency at the American School of Classical Studies, at Athens.

The award will be made by a Committee appointed by the Department of Classics on the basis, first of a thesis, the subject of which must be approved by this Committee, and secondly, of such other evidence of scholarship, and knowledge of Classical art and archaeology, as may be accessible. In special circumstances the Committee may, at its own discretion, dispense with the requirement of the thesis, and in the award no account is to be taken of the financial means of the competitor. The editors of the Harvard Studies in Classical Philology are granted the right to publish the thesis of the successful candidate, if they so choose.
