Winter track will officially commence for both Varsity and Freshman candidates this afternoon with an informal practice at Soldiers Field. Runners will report to Coach Farrell in the Briggs baseball cage, and field events men to Coach Mikkola in the old cage.
Practice will be held every afternoon from now until Christmas vacation, and due to the unfortunate location of the Reading Period and Mid Year examinations, the early training before Christmas recess will be the most important.
The great number of lettermen who graduated last year have left open many berths on the team for new men to fill. Among the men on the Intercollegiate. Team who are not back this year are: E. E. Record '32, hurdles; N. P. Hallowell, Jr. '32, middle distances; B. E. Estes '32, distance; J. B. Haines '32, dashes; Oscar Sutermeister '32, polevault and broad jump; G. W. Kuehn '32, high jump and shot put; and M. J. Finlayson '32, weights.
Last year's strong Freshman team is expected to bolster up a rather weak Varsity with but a few returning veterans. N. P. Dodge '33, captain of the cross country team, Arthur Foote, II '33, J. C. Grady '33, Richard Bassett '34, Alfred Kidder, II '33, and J. J. Healey '34, are the outstanding lettermen around whom the team will be built.
