According to reports printed yesterday in metropolitan newspapers, President Lowell is being considered by President-elect Roosevelt for the post of ambassador to the Court of St. James. It was stated, however, that there appeared no official basis for the statement, and it was not even known if President Lowell would accept the position, it if were offered.
Abbott Lawrence, grandfather of President Lowell, was the American ambassador to England from 1849 until 1852, which fact may be the cause of the rumor. Also to be taken into account is the fact that the late President Eliot was offered the post.
