Running through all its own plays for tomorrow and practicing thoroughly against Penn State plays put on by the B and C teams, the Varsity first string went through a snappy workout yesterday with all the players showing up well.
Hallowell is out of tomorrow's game, since the coaches want to take no chances of having the big center unable to go into the Dartmouth game. However, it should be an excellent experience and good practice for his substitute, Casey, to play through most of the game, as the pivot reserves are weak. Gleason is also definitely out of tomorrow's fray, while Bennett and Whipple are not expected to be in shape for the next two weeks.
Particular emphasis was placed on blocking assignments in yesterday's dummy scrimmage. Coach Arthur Sampson gave the players a talk on the Penn State plays, and a blackboard illustration of them was also given. After the half hour of signal drill, every man was sent around the field at least once.
Koplowe Out for Season
Morrie Koplowe '34, tackle on the Varsity squad, has been definitely ordered by Dr. Thorndike to give up football for this season, since blood tests showed he still had a slight amount of residual jaundice from the infectious jaundice which he contracted last spring.
D. C. Drinkwater '35, 180-pound Jayvee tackle, was taken up to the Varsity squad yesterday.
The Nittany Lions are expected to show Harvard a strong forward wall tomorrow, with their chief running threat in Sigel, a lightweight back. With Harvard scouts reporting that the Penn State team merely coasted through their recent game with Waynesburg, in spite of the fact that a last minute touchdown gave victory to the small college, it is likely that the first team will see considerably more action tomorrow than in its first two contests with the weak Buffalo and New Hampshire aggregations.
