STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS

The physical organization of the Student Council must soon undergo a series of changes due to the imposition of the House Plan. Adjustments to conditions have already been made and the council itself realizes that next year, with the coming of the House Plan in full, there must come a complete readjustment. This was intimated in a report at the first of the year, but no indications of what changes would be made were given.

It is obvious that the present group must in time become an inter-house council. It is also desirable that this change into the new form be made as soon as possible. For that reason it would seem better to postpone the elections for the Student Council, which are to be held in a few weeks, until a time very early in the Fall. Any election of members now would of necessity cause a makeshift arrangement next year. It is also impossible to have any of the five new units name any members from out of their scattered midst this semester. The Junior members of council could very well remain over as is always the custom, conduct the elections in the Fall and aid in the transformation from the old to the new.

Since it is entirely possible that the Student Council will assume more duties and greater importance under the House Plan it is especially desirable that it be a complete inter-house body, functioning as such from the very start. The details of the elections, the number of men to be named, and the manner of election in the respective houses can best be determined by the council itself. The advantages of having a complete inter-house body from the start ready to discuss all House problems in a qualified manner would, however, make it expedient to postpone the coming elections.
