Johnson and Levine are Other Newly Elected Officers

In the annual election of officers of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau held yesterday afternoon, Richard Elias Gugenhime 2L, of San Francisco, California, was chosen president; Henry Bedwell Ely 2L, of New York City became vice-president; Herman Blackmer Johnson 2L, of Two Harbors, Michigan, was elected secretary; and Harold Levine 2L, of New York City, was chosen treasurer. These men succeed the retiring officers T. E. Dudley 3L, James Hodge, Jr. 3L, E. F. Clark, Jr. 3L, and F. A. Heiss 3L, who have piloted the organization during the past year.

In keeping with the cosmopolitan character of the Law School in general, the new officers represent institutions from diverse sections of the country, Gugenhime being a graduate of Leland Stanford, Ely of Williams, Johnson of Carroll College, Wisconsin and Levine of Yale.

Announce Banquet Date

Announcement was also made yesterday by the retiring officers that the annual Legal Aid banquet is to be held at the University Club on Monday, April 6, at 7 o'clock. The speakers will include Roscoe Pound, Dean of the Harvard Law School, Professor Austin Watkinson Scott, Story Professor of Law, and Walter Barton Leach, Assistant Professor of Law.

The Harvard Legal Aid Bureau was organized by the Law Committee of Phillips Brooks House in 1913 to fulfill a twofold purpose. The first was to "render legal aid and assistance gratuitously to all persons or associations who by reason of financial embarrassment or social position or for any other reason may appear worthy thereof"; the second was to give law students the training in legal practice which the Law School does not pretend to give.

The activities of the organization during the last year have been more numerous and more successful than in any similar period in its history. The number of cases handled will doubtless total more than 250, which exceeds even last year's record. Due both to the increased number of clients, and the proximity of examinations in the Law School, the Bureau's office will close on March 31 not to reopen until October. All the cases now on hand, however, will be completed.
