Applications for the Charles and Julia Henry Fund Scholarships must be received by the secretary to the Corporation, University Hall, not later than Sunday, March 1. These scholarships, each of which will have an annual stipend of $500, will enable the holders to attend Oxford or Cambridge universities. Four American students will be appointed.
Normally the scholarships will be awarded for a single, year, but may, in exceptional cases, be extended for a second year. Appointments of the first American Scholars on the Charles and Julia Henry Fund will be made not later than Saturday, April 18, of this year.
For the Harvard senior, these scholarships present obvious advantages over the Rhodes Scholarships, or other appointments for a longer term. T. H. Eliot '28, and 2L, who held the Lionel de Jersey Harvard Studentship at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in 1928-29, said last night in regard to a year's scholarship at an English university: "If a man is keen to broaden his experience, or simply to make the most of a year abroad, such a scholarship is a good answer to his wishes. A man holding it has a splendid opportunity to represent America in the best possible way, and at the same time will not be gone long enough to lose contact with his own affairs and interests at home."
