Tonight at 8 o'clock in the Harvard Union, Welker Cochrane and Willie Hoppe will compete in a 250 point 18.2 balkline billiard match, followed by a 25 point game of three cushion billiards.
After the matches, the two leaders in the billiard world will give exhibitions, showing the finer technique of the game. Ben Laurie will be referee for the evening.
Till 1929, Willie Hoppe won the billiard championship so consistently, that people came to regard it as his rightful possession. At that time, however, he left the National Billiard Association, taking with him Welker Cochrane and others of the world's most expert players. This group has formed a, clique, which contains the great masters of the game, and has Welker Cochrane and Willie Hoppe as its acknowledged leaders.
Due to the limited room available, the match is open only to members of the Union, who will be asked to show their membership cards.
