DAVIS IS WINNER OF PENROSE MEDAL FOR WORK IN GEOLOGY

Has lead Geographical and Geological Expeditions From Cambridge

The Penrose Medal of the American Geological Society has been awarded this year to William Morris Davis '69, Sturgis Hooper Professor of Geology emeritus, at Harvard of Geology emeritus, at Harvard. This annual award is given for outstanding services to the advancement of geological science. It was founded by the late R. A. F. Penrose, Jr., '84, an eminent amateur geologist of Philadelphia.

The presentation of this gold medal will be made on December 30 after the annual dinner of the society at its meeting in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The recipient retired from teaching at Harvard in 1912 and has since been living in California. He has lead many geographical and geological expeditions from Cambridge and is an authority on coral.
