President Lowell's refusal to permit Harvard athletes to become commercial dole-subsidizers by the transfer of the Army-Harvard football game to the Yankee Stadium is the only answer to an unwelcome proposal. Nor would the President have been able to justify allowing the Harvard football team to take the chance of becoming a political pawn even at the center of the universe.

The financial effect on the Harvard Athletic Association aside, for it has been logically explained, there is no reason which can justify the complete commercialization of a college football team and name. And especially when the efficiency of municipal government charity and its administration is debatable.

The President has vigorously refused an invitation the acceptance of which would have been in even worse taste than its issuance.
