The University swimming team auspiciously opened Harvard's first inter-collegiate swimming schedule since 1915 on Friday when it trounced Bowdoin 51 to 11. The Freshmen also opened their season with a win, defeating the strong Exeter team 39 to 27 last Saturday.
In the University meet. B. S. Wood '33 led in the scoring, finishing first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard swims by comfortable margins, and fell only one fifth of a second short of the pool record set at the Intercollegiates last April by Schwarz of Northwestern.
Bowdoin's only victory came in the 200-yard breast stroke, with Densmore of the Maine group winning with a time of 2 min., 51 3-5 seconds. Harvard loomed strong in the dive and 150-yard back stroke events.
