Indication that the University soccer team will be a powerful contestant for leading ranking in the Intercollegiate ratings this year was shown Saturday, when the first string eleven handed the seconds a 4 to 0 defeat in the first formal scrimmage of the year. The first team showed plenty of action playing a hard game all the time, and as only a few minor injuries occured, it seems likely that Head Coach J. F. Carr '28 will start Saturday's lineup in the opening game of the season, with Wesleyan, scheduled for this Saturday.
High scorer for the University eleven was D. M. Frame '32, who scored the first three goals of the game. In the first quarter Frame did some neat dribbling through the second team defense, and shot a swift one past Faude, goalie, who last year was an All American member of the University team. A second score came when Frame headed the ball in from the side of the goal.
During the second quarter H. H. Broad-bent '32, took the ball down the field and drove a hard shot at the second team goalie. With a desperate effort, Faude stopped the kick, but was drawn out of position far enough to enable Frame to take the shot as it ricochetted from the goal, and drive it back again for another score. The final score for the winners was made by J. W. Carrigan '31, who garnered a goal on a long accurate kick that came at an unexpected moment.
