In a preliminary competition for the Boylston and Lee Wade public speaking prizes, which was held yesterday in the large lecture room of the Fogg Art Museum, twelve men out of a field of forty were picked for the semi-final contest, to be held Tuesday afternoon.
The selections which were rendered ranged from classical to recent poems and orations. All of the selections were given in English. They were judged by Assistant Professor F. C. Packard Jr. '20, Assistant Professor R. S. Hillyer '17, and A. J. McMullen, all of the English Department.
The men retained for further competition are: T. R. Berner '31, H. C. Friend '31, Carlton Green '30, P. G. Hoffman '32, D. D. Lloyd '31, M. F. Loewenstein '32,' G. N. Lodgin '32, J. W. Norcross '32, Abbot Peterson Jr. '30, P. C. Reardon '32, J. L. Ware '30, and Fassenden Wilder '32.
