Brick by brick, the tall twin smoke-stacks of the old heating plant that have for so long overshadowed. Smith Halls are gradually being demolished, although to a casual observer the stacks seem just as high as over.
Inside of a month it is expected that the 30 year old shafts will be down entirely, the victims of the University's announced plan to erect a new House upon the site.
Professional workers of many years' experience are in charge of the work. They are raised to the top of the 237 feet high stacks by means of a "Bos'n's Chair", or small seat that can be raised or lowered by means of pulleys. From their precarious position, they expect to complete the tedious task of loosening one by one more than two million bricks.
