In a meeting to be held in the New Lecture Hall on Thursday, April 3, members of the Class of 1933 will take their first step towards the selection of fields of concentration, when they will be addressed by members of the faculty on the choosing of fields of concentration, and on the nature of tutorial work. The entire class will be expected to attend, and absences from regular classes will be excused.
Two years ago the CRIMSON, in cooperation with the Committee on the Choice of Electives, published a pamphlet of 40 pages which contained articles on concentration written by different members of the faculty. These pamphlets, with concentration blanks and study cards for the first of next semester, will be distributed throughout the class by April 1. With them will be enclosed a list of men connected with the respective departments who will hold stated office hours from April 3 to April 23, by which time the concentration and study cards must be returned.
The Freshmen will be addressed by President Lowell, Professor J. P. Baxter of the History department, and Delmar Leighton '19, Secretary of the Committee on the Choice of Electives. President Lowell will give the first year men definite information on the method of making their final choice of a field of concentration. Professor Baxter will explain the methods used in the tutorial system with which the Freshmen will have to acquaint themselves next year, while Mr. Leighton will discuss the question of subjects for the Sophomore year.
Before making a final decision, every student must have had a conference, not only with his faculty adviser, but also with a representative of the field of study in which he intends to concentrate. The submitted plan must include concentration and distribution for the whole college course, and also the list of courses that the student elects for the first half of his Sophomore year.
