Competitions for four departments of the CRIMSON will open with a meeting in the CRIMSON Building, 14 Plympton Street, tonight at 7 o'clock. Candidates will be drawn from the Freshman class for the News, Business, and Photographic departments. Sophomores will be allowed to compete for the Editorial department. The tryouts for all of these departments will last nine weeks.

As these competitions offer the first chance for undergraduates to make the CRIMSON in each of the various boards, all successful candidates will have, in addition to the prestige of being among the first men in the class to be chosen, a favored opportunity of being elected to executive office in their Sophomore and Junior years. Salaries are paid to all officers, and it is by no means rare for the business manager to make enough to clear all his college expenses for the entire year.

At the meeting tonight, R. S. Morison '30, president of the CRIMSON, will make a short talk to all candidates on general points of the competition. Later candidates will be shown around the building by the heads of those departments in which they intend to compete.

In the News Department members of the Class of 1933 will find great diversity in the nature of their work. Uncovering the news of the day, and writing stories under the supervision of experienced editors will constitute the duties of the News candidates. Interviewing actresses and the various luminaries in public life who come to Boston and Cambridge form an interesting chapter in the life of the candidate.

Whereas soliciting advertisements will be the major part of the Business candidate's work performance of routine duties, office work, and getting subscriptions also play a large part in the competition.

The Photographic Department offers a thorough training in the mechanics of photography. The editors will supply candidates with cameras and instructions in the methods of picture taking, developing and printing.

Candidates for the Editorial Board will be required to submit at least one editorial each day. They will be expected to keep in close touch with current events.
