The annual miracle play of the Harvard Dramatic Club will be presented this year in the Germanic Museum on the evenings of Tuesday, December 16, Wednesday, December 17, and Thursday, December 18.
It will be a Bilsen play, entitled "The Star", translated from the original sources by Donald Fay Robinson '26, and never before presented by the club. To reproduce the ancient atmosphere of a miracle play, the action will take place in the great hall of the museum, in front of the cathedral door there reconstructed.
With no curtain and little scenery, the play will be produced in pageant form; the several scenes will be distinguished by lowering the lights. Brilliance of costume and of illumination will serve to obtain the desired effects.
P. G. Hoffman '32, who has taken part in dramatic productions of the Harvard Dramatic Club, and in those of the Idler Club at Radcliffe, where he took the role of Lord Darlington in "Lady Windermere's Fan," will direct the production. B. H. Goldsmith '33 will be production manager, and J. W. Welsh '31 will attend to the lighting arrangements, while Marshal Smith '32 will be make-up man.
Try-outs for the play will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock in the Germanic Museum.
The miracle play will go into production just as the Dramatic Club fall show, "Cake," begins its four day run in Cambridge and Boston. Performances of the latter will be given at Brattle Hall on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week, and at the Repertory Theatre in Boston on Saturday.
"Cake" is a fantasy by Witter Bynner '02, well known author. It has never been produced except by a group of players in Pasadena, California. The show is being directed by Mrs. Christine Arfeld Davidson, who has several successes to her credit with the Radcliffe Idler, the Cambridge Social Dramatic Club, and other organizations.
