Expostulation

THE MAIL

To the Editor of the CRIMSON:

The Naval Science Department obtained from the City of Cambridge the privilege of using the Rogers Building for carrying on certain drills that are essential for most effectively fitting the members of the N. R. O. T. C. at Harvard for their Commissions as Naval Reserve Officers. It is obvious that theoretical instruction is more efficient if combined with practical application as in these drills.

After consultation with the Secretary of the Board of Governors of the Cambridge School of Drama last May, I received a letter from him the first paragraph of which I quote:

"I wish to thank you for your generous cooperation in working out with me this morning a satisfactory arrangement for our mutual use of the Rogers Building."

The arrangement referred to in the quoted paragraph is now in effect and provides for its use by the Naval Science Department for only two hours on two days of the week during ten of 35 weeks of the academic year.

It is greatly desired that a more suitable building for the purposes of the Naval Science Department could be made available but at present there is none.

There are several reasons why the old base ball cage cannot be used. One very good reason is that it is needed by the Harvard Athletic Association during some of the drill periods. Very truly yours,   Benyaurd Bourne Wygant,
