Scenario writers whose task is to portray the activities of the various gangs of racketeers, who shoot up the screen in many motion picture houses now must have exhausted their imaginations before the plot for "The Squealer" now current at the Keith Albee theatre, was concoted.
Jack Holt is the successful broker-racketeer of the type with whom most theatre-goers are familiar. His wife is the loving type who knows nothing of her husband's affairs with the underworld, while the "Sonny Boy" element is introduced in "Davey Lee" who makes his entree into the domestic scene singing "Rockaby Baby".
Not very much can be said in favor of this picture: the dialogue is poor the acting is amateurish, and the directing could hardly be commended. The scenes in which the gangsters get their man or the prison riot fall far short of being convincing.
The vaudeville acts are no worse or no better than usual. "Mantell's Manikins" put on the best act of the program with a varied assortment of marionettes performing. Will and Gladys Ahern, formerly of Simple Simon, are a close second best with a repertoire of rope spinning and wisecracking. The other acts keep the average down.
