At 8 o'clock this evening in the New Court Room in the west wing of Langdell Hall, the final argument of the Ames Competition will take place. The Scott Club, represented by E. B. Hanley Jr. 3L and C. A. Howard Jr. 3L, as the complainant, will oppose the Edward Warren Club, represented by V. R. Booth 3L and R. F. Young 3L, as the respondent.
The case to be argued is one of equity affecting trade secrets and unfair competition. The judges are to be the Honorable W. S. Kenyon, United States Judge of the Eighth Circuit; the Honorable Smith Hickenlooper, United States Judge of the Sixth Circuit; and the Honorable Kenneth MacKintosh, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Washington.
The judges decide the winners of the case solely on the merit of their argument, based on four points; the structure of the briefs, the value of the cases cited, the presentation, and ability to answer questions propounded by the judges. After the decision has been rendered, the judges customarily state what the law is, and what the decision would be were the case to be tried in an actual court of justice.
Last year the representatives of the Edward Warren Club were victorious. The winning club will receive an award of $300, while the other finalist gets a $200 prize. This evening's argument will mark the finals of the twentieth Ames Competition.
