When interviewed on the subject a few weeks ago, Mr. Bingham while admitting his own interest in the sport, said that any proposals for a boxing team to represent the University must come from the undergraduate body, evidently having in mind the lassitude with which the students greeted the question two years ago. The number of men engaged regularly in the sport, the additional facilities for boxing in the new gymnasium, and the recent communications between Harvard and Yale regarding the possibility of an intercollegiate contest have focussed much attention on the advisability of inaugurating a team.
In the action of the Student Council yesterday when it voted to recommend boxing as a minor sport, undergraduate opinion is as well represented as it possibly can be at Harvard. The next step lies with the Athletic Committee. Its approval should only be a matter of form, marking complete agreement between the students and the interest of the committee in their desires.
