We are writing this on the home bench just before the Mass. Aggies-Vermont baseball game. The team has just gone through some snappy infield practice--the fellows look good. We don't know what the outcome of today's contest will be. After all, that doesn't matter so much. What makes us feel proud and happy to be a "V" student is the fact that we see a wonderful bunch of fellows out there on the field, willing and anxious to advance the Green and Gold banner of baseball prestige as far as they are able to do so. They're clean players; they're young players; they're good players. What more can one ask? You who come to the games cannot help but enjoy them. Again we demand--What more can you ask?
There's a man behind the scenes who's working, and working mighty hard, to dust the dust off the diamond dusters to smooth off the rough edges, now that the team has advanced so far into the season. He's already done an excellent job. He's taken a green team, given them the golden wisdom of his long experience and produced a Green and Gold combination that we may well be proud of.
We've just walked about in front of the stands, looking the crowd over a hit. There aren't as many Vermont Eds and Coos as we'd like to find supporting the team, cheering for it, wholeheartedly interested in it.
Is this big thing called college spirit simply a myth? Is this even bigger thing called "The Old Vermont Spirit" just an empty bubble? We hardly think so. We don't want to think so. We'd rather believe that you're right behind "Larry" Gardner he too, deserves your loyal support. Vermont Cynic
