The announcement of the licensing of three new pilots and plans for another cross country flight which will take place some time this week, was made last night by I. T. Williams '30, the newly elected president of the Harvard Flying Club.
Williams, Robert Gilmor Jr. '31, and G. C. Rand '32 are the new pilots in the club. Williams has just received his license and those of the other two are expected in a short time.
Following the election into the club of several new members which was recently announced the ground staff has been reorganized and four of the men have been included in it. The new flyers who have been given positions in this group are T. O. Brewster '29, J. R. Stewart ocC, Gilmor, and A. C. Packard gr. E.S.
This spring the club plane has been in the air on an average of one and one-half hours a day which is a high average considering the stormy weather that has been prevalent this year. During the Spring Recess, the plane, with H. P. Moon '32 piloting, made a cross-country flight to New York and Philadelphia carrying several members of the University of Pennsylvania flying club.
The next cross-country flight will take place this week when Moon and R. B. Bell '30, former president, will fly the plane to New Bedford and the Cape.
After the end of the college term, the plane will be used by graduate flyers until July 1. After that date, the plane will be sold according to the custom of the club, and a new one bought in the fall.
Although it has not been definitely decided, it is expected that the new plane will have a Wright Whirlwind motor of the same principle as the one used by Lindbergh in his trans-atlantic flight.
