CREWS MAY TAKE TO OPEN WATER ON CHARLES TODAY

Yesterday's warm weather together with last night's brief rain, broke up the ice on the Charles to such an extent that the University crews may take to the river today for the first time since about December 1.

Workmen launched a skiff yesterday from the Weld Boathouse and managed to clear the ice away from the piers of the landing stage and also to open a passage into the free part of the river. With the possibility of a further warm period today, there may be by this afternoon an open stretch extending from the Anderson to at least the Western Avenue Bridge.

Coach E. J. Brown '96 was unable to give any definite plans for the prospects of an outdoor session, but expressed his hope, if conditions turn out favorably, to get four or five shells into the water.
