To the Editor of the CRIMSON:
With the vast and ponderous machinery of Widener library it seems extremely unfortunate that it is so frequently impossible to obtain books either because they are "lost" or "overdue". It is admittedly difficult to attain perfection in such a large organization, but this can not excuse the high percentage of unsuccessful attempts to procure books.
In consideration of the powerful threats with which the library officials are armed, it is a rather lame excuse to say it is impossible to force the return of books. As for the lost books, they should either have a system of preventing this unfortunate event or else make better provisions for replacement. It would be interesting to see some statistics on the percentage of books missing out of the total asked for at the Delivery Desk. R. L. Richards '32.
