Clark, Harvard Sportsman, to be Duke of the Evening at Russian Skating Bee--Pony on Runners Gives Horseplay

F. A. Clark '29, captain of the University crew and polo team, and star tackle on the University eleven, will play the part of the Grand Duke in the Russian Skating Carnival which will take place in the Boston Arena at 8.15 o'clock Wednesday, evening, it was learned yesterday. Clark will not make his debut on skates but will appear in a sleigh with Mrs. Gaspar G. Racon, the Grand Duchess. This vehicle will be drawn into a model village square on the B. A. A. rink by Pansy, the Skating Pony, who has been imported from the snowy steppes of Russia for the occasion.

Later in the evening Pansy, who is the only skating horse in existence, will provide a comedy relief for the audience with a fancy exhibition of skating. His appearance in the village square, which will be lighted by the torches of numerous peasants, is promised as the hit of the evening's performance.

A large number of Harvard students and graduates, well known in amateur skating circles, will present dance exhibitions after the carnival number is completed. Foremost among these is S. C. Badger '23, who held the National Exhibition Skating Championship for three years while he was in college, and who is considered the best free skater in the country. Frederick Goodridge '29, National Junior champion in 1927, will add an act of fancy skating to the program.

Among the better known performers will be R. L. Hapgood '25, familiar Harvard Square figure, who has been runner-up in national competitions of fancy skating. Mrs. Theresa W. Blanchard and N. W. Niles '09, pair champions of the United States from 1918 to 1928, will also present an exhibition. C. M. Rotch '01 and A. M. Goodridge '00 will be among the Lancers in the Carnival.

Maribel Vinson, National Champion Woman Skater, who is a student at Radcliffe, will be the Prima Ballerina of the evening. Miss Vinson placed second in the world championship competition last year. Her corps de Ballet will be composed of Boston debutantes and sub-debutantes, who are reported to cut notable figures on the ice.
