Freshman Week this fall will be shortened one day of the customary five devoted in the past to formal and informal meetings for the members of the incoming class, it was announced at University Hall yesterday. No reason was given for the step other than that the former period of five days was longer than the first year preliminary engagements required.

Registration for Freshmen this fall has been moved ahead to Friday, September 21, displacing Thursday from the schedule of events entirely. First year men will be expected to complete their registering during the day from 0 until 5 o'clock. In the evening, it is planned to have a general reception for the class in the Harvard Union at which President and Mrs Lowell and Dean and Mrs Hanford will receive the members of 1932. The reception will be followed by a buffet supper and a formal meeting.

At this meeting, Dean Hanford will preside and President Lowell will deliver an address of welcome. A prominent graduate or several prominent graduates are also expected to give talks at the first assembly.

On Saturday night, September 22, a second gathering of the Freshmen is planned in the Union, one of a different character than the first. The subjects for discussion and explanation will be "Athletics" and "Physical Training." W. J. Bingham '16, director of athletics, and A. E. French '29, captain of next fall's football team, will be listed among the speakers. A moving picture film depicting various sports of the College will also be shown.

The final major assembly for the first year men will take place in Phillips Brooks House on Monday night. At this annual event, undergraduates prominent in activities, including the presidents of the CRIMSON, Advocate and Lampoon, will speak and the Glee Club will entertain with Harvard songs. Refreshments will be served.
