1931 EIGHT OPENS SEASON TODAY

Oarsmen Meet M. I. T. at 4 O'clock in Charles River Basin

The 1931 oarsmen face the M. I. T. first year crew in the curtain raiser for the Harvard-Tech regatta at 4 o'clock this afternoon. It is the premiere for Coach H. H. Haines' men and will suffice to test the strength of what is reputed to be a very powerful Freshman combination.

The average height of the 1931 crew is six feet, one inch and the average weight, 176 pounds. S. W. Swaim '31, the stroke, will serve as acting captain.

The Tech Freshmen have been defeated by both the Navy and Princeton first year boats in previous races.

The Harvard 1931 shell will be seated as follows: stroke, Swaim; 7, A. N. Webster '31; 6, P. H. Watts '31; 5, A. B. Rood '31; 4, E. L. Millard Jr. '31; 3, Frederick Ayer '31; 2, N. E. Parkinson 31; bow, R. I. Mackesson '31; cox., Richard Kimball '31.

The M. I. T. Freshmen will race as follows: stroke, Richardson; 7, Hall; 6, Captain Otis; 5, MacLeod; 4, Evans; 3, Bennett; 2, Morris; bow Birdsell; cox., Whittaker.
