RACES OPEN HARVARD INVITATION REGATTA

CROOKS PLACES FIRST INFERIOR SINGLES EVENT

The Harvard invitation Regatta got under way yesterday afternoon in the Charles River Basin with the first races of the week. In the contest for Senior Eights the first Freshman 150-pound combinations was the only crew entered and as a result rowed in the Junior Eights race. It won this contest with crew M, the Fourth University 150-pound shell, placing second ahead of the other three Junior Eights. J. A. Crooks '25, of the Union Boat Club, won the Senior Singles race.

The four crews got away from the temporary Cottage Farms Bridge at about 5 o'clock with the First Freshman and the Fourth 150-pound shells taking the lead. When the mile course was completed the First Freshman combination slipped across the line a length and a half ahead of the Fourth University shell with the Second University light weight eight third and the Fourth University shell with the Second University light weight eight third and the Fourth University shell last. This afternoon the Junior and Senior Eights will race.

In the Senior singles race, which was an open event, Crooks took first place with R. B. Tuber '30 second. This race was also over the mile course in the Charles River Basin.
