Eight college flying organizations, among them the Harvard Flying Club, will be represented in the intercollegiate air races to be held at Mitchell Field, New York, on June 23. This is the only intercollegiate flying meet to be held since the first competition in 1920.
Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh is one of the judges of the race, which will be held under the auspices of the National Aeronautical Association. Three prizes of $500, $300, and $200 will be awarded the winning clubs by Grover Loneing, manufacturer and designer of airplanes, together with individual and club trophies.
The competition will be an altitude contest, which is preferred to a speed race since it is safer and is won by the skill of the pilot rather than by the power of the engine. Each club enters three pilots, who are listed to compete in separate tests.
